Summer 2008, after many years of trying, we found out we were pregnant with TWINS! We couldn’t have been more ecstatic, relieved, blessed and fearful… Of course, since I had body issues I found it hard to do nothing and then decided to really eat foods that I denied myself for so long and because of this I gained! I wasn’t prepared for the GIANT weight gain that came with being pregnant with twins and thought, I’ll loose it easy (since I was in shape and active before pregnancy) and with breastfeeding the weight will just “drop” off, right? NOPE! It took a LOT and a LOT of work to get that weight off, 80+lbs to be exact! Eek! Here’s a few pictures of me in the 3rd trimester with twins.
I’ve always had the desire to have the “perfect” figure and tried all means possible to get there… Meaning become very sick with anorexic and bulimia and having to go into impatient therapy to seek help and live. While in the clinic, I was told that I was going to be one of the patients on the “wall of death…” There was NO way I was going to be that person, I was going to live and survive and obviously if God told me “I was going to be ok,” then I had to believe Him. I’ve had many struggles since then (2002) and was never happy with myself, and even though I knew I had a passion to help others, especially those with eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia & over-eaters), I had to learn to love myself.
8 weeks after the twins were born I was committed to getting back into shape and started running and also started a BeachBody program called P90X, which was all the rage in 2009! Once I started P90X, I wasn’t seeing a huge weight loss, so I decided to start the “diet” program of P90X and drink SHAKEOLOGY and saw a HUGE improvement! At the time, I didn’t realize diet is 80% of weight loss and working out is only 20%! I did take “before” pictures, but have since deleted them… They were awful, but here are some pictures of me during the P90X program after the twins were born. I was not happy with myself, and hence, the huge commitment to getting back into shape. Remember moms out there, it takes 9 months to put it on, it’s going to take at least 9 to get that weight off!
After I finished my 1st round of P90X, I decided push myself harder and started P90X Doubles (so I could start running and training for races). Because of P90X, I felt strong enough and in enough cardio shape to sign up for my 1st 1/2 marathon (without really training) when the twins were 5 months old, and further ran 2 more 1/2s after and an 18 miler within the year the twins were born. Because of running & P90X, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight of 130lbs within the year!
When we got stationed at Fort Irwin, California (smack dab in the middle of the Mojave Desert), I was committed to train for a full marathon which I successfully did before the twins turned 2.
After my marathon, I was “runned out” and needed to do something else. That’s when I thought, why not try another BeachBody program called Insanity? So, Insanity is what I did and I loved it! I gained more muscle, but still was unhappy with myself and not confident, so I decided to start running again, and did 3 more 1/2 marathons a year after my marathon, between that time I also wanted to try another BeachBody program, called Turbo Fire! SO MUCH FUN! I really believe that doing Insanity and Turbo Fire helped me with my running by strengthening my legs and core and helped me with my times.
During the time between running, Insanity and Turbo Fire, my husband got word he was deploying to Afghanistan… I could have taken the deployment two ways, (1) was to sulk, pout, be miserable for 6 months and a terrible mother or (2) start a new workout program, diet and get in the BEST shape of my life so my husband can come home to a “new” wife, and be a happy mom. I decided to go with option 2 and started HIIT workouts (like Insanity and Bodyrock.tv) and started to take photos, take my measurements, track my food and calories, start eating clean & gluten-free, drink SHAKEOLOGY and workout like a beast! In 6 months, I went from 135/140lbs, size 8/10 & looking like this:
To a transformation that looks like this (and this is why it’s really important to take photos and measurements so you’re really able to see how much your body changes):
I ended up being a size 2/4 and 125/120lbs by the time my husband got home 1.5 years ago. I’ve maintained my weight & size since then by drinking SHAKEOLOGY (they have 2 vegan options which is what I now drink because there’s not gluten), counting calories daily (I eat approx. 1500 calories/day) and clean eating (no gluten, no dairy & very limited refined sugar), I also stopped drinking soda & only drink brewed ice tea, 2 cups of coffee in the morning and a LOT of water. I do “cheat” and allow myself popcorn & chocolate covered raisins, but if you limit yourself then you’re not going to gain the results you want because you’ll (a) give up & (b) end up bingeing on unhealthy food. Here are more recent photos of me:
It takes a lot of hard work, but with being committed and true to yourself, you can get there too. I also love being a role model to my children and now know how to love myself. I am now confident, love myself and am ready to help transform others and show that you can love yourself too!
Please let me help you with your journey and I promise you, you will not be disappointed! I am 100% dedicated to your transformation just like I am with mine!
